New / Returning User Requirements

Getting Started - New and Returning Users

New Users

For individual users who have never used radioactive materials at the NIH, the minimum requirements for using radioactive material are:

Submitting the registration form by fax the DRS will automatically enroll you into the first available Radiation Safety in the Laboratory class. Registering online or over the phone you can choose the class that best fits your schedule.
Note: Individuals may not use radioactive materials until all of these requirements are met. For minors under the age of 18 that intend to use radioactive materials please refer to the following page.
 
Returning Researchers to NIH

Former users of radioactive materials returning to the NIH after more than four years must:

Former users of radioactive materials returning to the NIH after less than four years cannot work with radioactive materials until:

  • You notify DRS to reactivate you
  • Provide DRS with current work information including authorized user, lab location and phone number
  • Submit dosimetry request form

Note: No new training is required before you can work with radioactive materials.
